Debian Server Notes

Descriptions how I setup my own server (although things have probably changed over time), and some solutions for the problems I hit.

• Lighttpd – webserver (Homepage)
  • Execwrap – a wrapper to execute with changed permissions (upstream http://cyanite.org/execwrap/ has been down for a long time now)
  • Redmine – project management (wiki, issue tracker, …), Homepage
    (based on Rails – so this may help you with rails too)
• Dovecot – pop3 / imap server for emails (Homepage)

• Daemontools – supervise services (Homepage)
• GlusterFS – filesharing (Homepage)

  • Gitosis – a nice tool for hosting many shared git projects; configuration via git ;-) (Homepage)
  • cgit – http repository browser, alternative to gitweb (which comes with git), coded in C and uses a built-in cache. (Homepage)
• Darcsweb – A web interface for darcs (Homepage)
• SSL-Certs – SSL certificates
• iptables – Firewall
• kvm – fun with kvm virtual servers
